About Us
In 1959 local physicians, health professionals, and cancer survivors established the (then called) Grant County Cancer Society to reach out and
assist local families facing cancer due to the high rates of cancer in our community. In the 1960’s the name was changed to Cancer Services of Grant County (CSGC). For decades CSGC has been lifting the burdens of illness for our friends and neighbors facing cancer. All of our services since 1959 have been provided free of charge. Our funding currently comes from grants, memorials, donations, and fund raising events.
Our programs have evolved over the years based on the needs of our community. Today we provide financial support for medicine, medical bills, transportation, supplies and equipment, patient navigation, free screenings, educational outreach, and more.
Cancer doesn’t discriminate. It doesn’t care how old you are, how much money you have, whether you have health insurance, if you are a single parent, or a lonely senior citizen. We realize that everyone’s cancer journey is unique and our goal is to lift the burdens of illness for each person that walks in our doors based on their own unique set of needs.
Our Patient navigation provides understanding and direction for a cancer journey whose waters are often muddy as we guide them throughout their journey. Our Outreach education program reaches countywide to educate our community about nutrition, lifestyle, cancer risk, prevention, and early detection.
Our BESS (Breast Education Screening and Survival) Program provides more than 500 free mammograms and provides breast-health-specific education each year since 2000. 63 women have been diagnosed with breast cancer through this program, all of whom had no health insurance at the time. Early detection saves lives. The #1 female cancer diagnosed in Grant County is breast cancer.
Post-mastectomy fitting has been a service CSGC has provided to our breast cancer clients for decades fitting women with used prosthetics and bras donated by insured women after they received replacements through their post-mastectomy clinic. In 2015 the local post-mastectomy clinic that served this community for 30 years closed due to a retirement, which meant our local women would have to go out of town to be fitted for post- mastectomy needs. We felt it would be a good fit to open an accredited Post-Mastectomy Clinic at CSGC, and so the process began. We now have three certified mastectomy fitters, and accept Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurance.
